What do I think about the Oil Cleansing Method, and can I tell you exactly what you should try?

This is one of those bane-of-my-existence questions that I keep getting asked (you can help me out by reading through other peoples' questions!). It's not my bane because I don't want to answer your questions, I just don't have a satisfactory answer to this one because it's a much more complicated question than people realize, which is why I haven't written about it. So this is what I have to say about it right now, and I will update you if/when it changes.

What do I think about the OCM, and do I think you should try it:

From what I've read on the skincareaddiction subreddit (hi guys!), in my youtube comments, on blogs and other forums around the web, there is absolutely no way for me or anyone else to tell you if the OCM will work well for you. No way at all. There is also no way for me to tell you what combination of oils you should try, and what those oils will do for you (or to you). I know that's not what anyone wants to hear, but we're talking about rubbing oil on your face. Do you really think everyone's going to have the same reaction, or even closely generalized reactions? Comedogenicity is a very tricky thing. It's not just about the oil you put on your face, it's also about your personal sebum mixing with that oil and all of the other products you use. It's not black and white. I have provided you with a quick-reference guide to the comedogenicity of various oils, but again, there's more to it than that. (See: Skin Care Oils and Comedogenicity)

I haven't tried the OCM outside of using pre-made cleansing oils, which work ok but not great for me, but even I, with my extremely dry skin, have comedogenicity issues with oils sometimes. So that's really all I can say about it: it works when it works, and it doesn't work when it doesn't work. It causes problems for some people, and not for others, and all of the different oil combinations seem to be more or less a gamble. It's the same reason I say coconut and olive oils are both good and bad, because they're great when people respond well to them, but the people who don't tend to have serious problems. And oh boy, do I get crap about speaking ill of those two oils.  

I plan to do more research eventually, but my skin has been kind of a disaster this winter, so I haven't wanted to mess with it too much. It also won't make any difference for most of you if I start doing the OCM, because there is absolutely no way for me or anyone else to know if it will work and not cause problems for you, ergo the routine I try is completely irrelevant. So I'm sorry everyone, I can't tell you what to do here. I can give you information and opinions based on my experience (and I have none with the OCM yet), but especially with something so personal as the OCM, I'm definitely not going to tell you what to do when you know much better than I do what your skin can handle. Try to gather as much information as you can, but at a certain point you just have to make your own judgment call.
